All About Me

Daniel Scott Smith

This page is dedicated to me! Here is some information about me!:

I grew up in the La Crescenta, CA area. I attended Mountain Ave Elementary School to start off my schooling career. After I completed sixth grade, I moved up in the world to Rosemont Junior High School. I was there for two years, and then it was off to Crescenta Valley High

While at CV, I participated in the Boy's Volleyball Team, the Spanish Club and spent one year on the Basketball Team. I remember walking on to the campus for the first time and thinking about how big it was, and then thinking it was really small and I was completely ready to leave by my senior year! I graduated in 1996 with a GPA good enough to get me into San Diego State University!

In the fall of 1996, I moved from La Crescenta to San Diego. After a few weeks on campus, I joined the San Diego State Men's Crew Team. The experience was great! Somehow between the mix of "interesting" people (Fritz, Nimrod, Cochese, Zeus, etc...note, these are all real names, not nicknames), the crazy coaches (Garth, Spence, John Nunmaker and Peab) and the loss of our boats in an accident, we were able to make a pretty fast crew! I rowed for two more years before I became completely burnt out!

During my SDSU career, I was primary there to study Computer Science. The class sizes were small, however, it also made it difficult to get your classes. I did manage to take all of the classes I needed during the semesters and summer school, and I managed to graduate in only 4 years! (I think at that time the average SDSU student took 6+ years to graduate!)

Once I graduated from SDSU, I took a job working for Ericsson Wireless in San Diego. They had recently purchased the CDMA infrastructure division from Qualcomm and was just getting into the CDMA 2000 Business. The engineers there were amazing, as we developed and commercially released a product on a new, untested platform in just over a year! However, business people in another part of the company weren't impressed, and they moved all R&D work from San Diego to Montreal, and I was laid off in the process!

After being laid off, I took a job working as a consultant at Teleca, USA. We had various consuting gigs around town, and I ended up working with a bunch of fun engineers at Nokia. After about 9 months at Teleca, I ended up leaving for a new job at Alaris Medical Systems I am currently working as a software engineer there, developing software for the Medley IV Pump.
